Insulate Britain has come under fire in the last few weeks due to blockages along the orbital motorway (M25). The M25 is one of England’s pivotal motorways circling London, ensuring food, fuel, and healthcare supplies are provided to Greater London. At the same time, the M25 offers Londoners transit routes to other parts of the country.
In the last two weeks, Insulate Britain has blocked the M25 a total of 7 times. The group was served with a high court injunction, which outlined that those involved in future protests blocking the M25 may be held in contempt of court and imprisoned, fined, or have assets seized. Insulate Britain is calling on the government to take responsibility and build fully low or no carbon housing by 2030.
On the 28th of September, Insulate Britain broke their injunction by protesting on the connecting motorway to Heathrow Airport. On the 29th of September, the group then went back to protest on the M25. The total arrest figure sits at 438, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Insulate Britains spokesperson Liam Norton has said, ‘you can throw as many injunctions at us as you like, but we are going nowhere.’
